Final artwork for skateboard design
I finished to make my characters look more abstract and background as well.
As you can see, I did cutting body and fill different colours. The way of colouring I
tried is fill similar colour with dark colour tone. This is because I do want my
original characters to be damaged by making abstract. If I tried to use a variety of
colour, the original beauty of the characters would disappear. I will explain how to
use colour for characters. For the cat, I used red colour. Being red means passion,
energy, power and life, so the concept of the cat match the meaning of the colour.
For the monkey, I used mainly yellow. The monkey which personalised as being a child
that matches a liveliness and being naive yellow has. Colouring brown in monkey was
used for the way of colouring to make the characters look more abstract.
For pig, I used green colour. Green actually has both positive and negative meaning,
In being negative, green means death and devil. So, I think green coloring helps
the pig more evil. Lastly, for rabbit, I used pink and purple. Both two colour has
relation to romance, love and jealous that is why rabbit matches these two colors.
For background, I drew some curve shapes and applied clipping mask to a pattern with
the curve shapes and then I got a new pattern. Finally, the new pattern matched
the animal characters.
Following are my final artworks for a series of skateboard design.
I will print out one of them to submit next Monday.
This is my final skateboard design series I submit.
My skateboard design (1)
As mentioned before, I tried to animal characters to be personalised. I created a cat
to look like a person who are passionate and energetic ,but has two different persona
that is why I gave it a mask.I made a monkey to seem to be a cute and outgoing child.
Also, I tried to draw a pig personalised to get greedy or evil and I made a rabbit
to look like a young and lovely female.
Now, What I need to fix it to make them more abstract, so I will cut their body and
fill another colour to contrast. I think that the way of colouring will work on
making abstract for my characters.

Moodboard about my abstract painting and thinking about the topic
As you can see the moodboard above, my topic is animals with a rabbit , monkey, a pig
and a cat.. I will make these animals are personified as a person. The reasony why I
chose the animal characters as my topic is a difficulty of abstract art to main
target who will be young generation like teenagers and children. Most abstract
paintings are harder to appreciate and understand rather than general and common
paintings. A few of abstract arts from the Internet, they are
too much harder ,so common audiences can not figure out the abstract art's features
and even the painter's intention. For this reason, familiar animal characters I
picked as a main topic can offset the difficulty of the topic to approach, so I will
not make it harder and much more abstract for main target and it will be a final
artwork that lives with being in harmony with animal character's own attraction
,features and the beauty of abstract art I intended.
For this aspect,I will try to seperate the animal characters which are my topic into
facial part and body part and I will make the facial part get more modified and then
I can put together deformed facial part and body part. This result will not seem to
be realistic and it is also a new artwork we have not seen before.

Research for abstract art and some images.
Abstract art does not make it look realistic and it is made of points, lines,
As you can see the above example, the tree changed from a real tree to
forms and colours and so it is unable to deliver painter’s feeling about the
theme to theaudiences in quick and immediately . This is because
interpretation about the abstract art depends on artists’ intention and feeling
about objects. For this reason, these sort of paintings is sometimes hard to
appreciate and understand the topic. When we try to make an abract art, it
isn’t expressed in reality what we see and it will be about our imagination ,
fantasy and memory so it is called “Abstract art”. There are a bunch of
abstract artists well-known like Mondrian, Kandinsky and
Picasso as well.
Following images are about the process how Mondrian made the tree based
As you can see the above example, the tree changed from a real tree to
lines and forms like being real into being figurative. The last image does
not seem to be a tree we have seen.
Additional images are examples of abstract art by unknown people from
Additional images are examples of abstract art by unknown people from
the Internet. All images I chose is not expressed in reality and they seem
that the artists used lots of lines, forms and colors intensive color to
describe objects based on their theme or concept . All objects are
deformed or remade by the artists' imagination and added with a variety
of colours and these objects matches colors used
on artists' intention.

Final surrealism poster
As mentioned about the features of surreal poster before, I tried to keep the concept what I thought before.
I created a TV monster with lots of snakes and a bleeding eye to give us a negative image about the TV itself and the TV
dragged a person who seems to be painful by using a rope . The person's concept came from "Screaming" by Munk which is one of famous surreal paintings and
the person's facial expression is from the film " Screaming". This is because those well-known images help build to make my artwork's concept deliver a negative image
of TV to the audiences. Also, I tried to use dark color tones with a little gradient as background. There are also people in agony beyond the hell gate.
I used illustrator program to draw all objects and background.

Moodboard and a talking about my topic in surrealism
Generally, surreal artworks have a couple of characteristics. First, it is a
deformation of objects. They are be distorted or twisted to make it look like not
being in reality.
Second. there is unstable composition and broken balance in surreal artworks.
Objects are placed in a position where general fixed idea breaks. For example, we
already knew that the closer to people’s field of vision, the bigger painter draw
,but surreal artworks does not work on the general theory and the objects can be
positioned on wherever the painters intended in the artwork.
Third, the painter who made surreal artworks wants to give the artwork a
figurative meaning to deliver the meaning to the public. It has connection with
the concept of the artwork, so the concept that the painters intended to show
affects on the style of the artwork.
Actually, my topic is a negative effect of mass media, specifically TV, on people.
Why I decided to express this idea is we can see some examples that the TV
mislead public opinion. For this aspect, I focus on trying to distort objects could
be TV, a person who represents the public, so I will try to draw TV to make it look
like a monster and the TV monster drags a person. This person will make it seem
to be in agony. I got a concept from the famous surreal artwork “ Screaming by
Munk” and the film” Scream” to express the person who represents whole people
in my artwork
. Therefore, successful combination of these objects and elements will make
people think about the topic of my artwork that is negative effect of the TV
on the public.
